More Time Leads To More Money

Many of us focus solely on financial goals, working tirelessly to increase our wealth. We think that financial abundance will give us the life we desire. But there's a foundational element we're missing.

Dan Sullivan, in his insightful book Who Not How, introduced me to his hierarchy of freedoms, placing time freedom at the base. It's a simple yet profound truth: without control over your time, financial freedom remains an elusive goal.

Looking Back

Let me share my journey. Starting as a call center agent in Dubai, my days were packed, with only one rest day per week. Despite this, I committed to learning about personal finance for at least 30 minutes daily. As I transitioned through various careers, from a telemarketer to an insurance agent, and finally to a business setup consultant, the quest for time flexibility remained my priority. This approach wasn't just about changing jobs, it was about strategically choosing roles that offered more control over my time.

Dan Sullivan's framework resonates deeply with my experience. With each career move, as I gained more control over my time, I found myself increasingly able to focus on high-impact activities. This shift wasn't merely about having more leisure time but about engaging in quality activities that enriched my personal and professional life. I’d do everything to finish the most important tasks of my day job in 4-6 hours, then the rest will be invested in personal growth, network expansion, and ultimately, honing my craft to be the best financial coach and educator that I can become.

Also, I keep my personal expenses at the lowest possible level so I can use my money on things that will help me buy more time, like software subscriptions to help me cut time spent on researching, podcasting, creating content, and making social media posts.

Today

The result? 138 podcast episodes, 20+ newsletters, a stronger brand, the creation of valuable courses, and a significant improvement in my financial well-being.

Now, the contents I made serve as my digital assets that compound over time. I can earn without trading for my personal time, which allows me to spend more time with the family. Still far from fully doing whatever the heck I want in life, but progress is progress.

It isn’t about solely about having all the time to do what you want. It also involves using your time on increasingly quality activities.

How to Gain Control of Your Time

  1. Evaluate Your Time: Take a close look at how you spend your days. Are you making choices, or are you reacting to demands?
  2. Set Boundaries: Learn to say no. Protect your time like you would your finances. It's just as valuable.
  3. Automate and Delegate: Free up your schedule by automating routine tasks and delegating what you can. This will give you more freedom to focus on what's truly important.
  4. Pursue What Aligns with Your Values: Use your newfound time to engage in activities that reflect your personal values and goals. This alignment is key to a fulfilling life.
  5. Use Money Wisely: Invest on things that allow you to get more of your time back.

Time Freedom is about having control over how we spend our days. It's the true key to a fulfilling life and, surprisingly, to financial freedom as well. By managing our time wisely, we can make better decisions, pursue what truly matters, and set ourselves on a path to financial independence that doesn't sacrifice our present happiness.
